I tried to "upframe" - convert mp4 with 23.976 to 30 frames rate. Does not work. I mean, output file still has 23.976 frames rate.

I'm an indie film maker and I'm seriously looking to buy this camera with the EF 18-135 IS kit to make my first feature.
My budget isn't over INR 60,000 (USD 1,300 approx).
What do you suggest?

One small factual correction - the G2 doesn't have in-body Optical Image Stabilization - it's in the lens, the same as with the other Panasonic Micro Four Thirds models. What's changed with the G2 is that the control to switch OIS on or off is in the camera menu. The G2's 14-42 kit lens lacks a physical OIS switch on the lens body, unlike (for example) the 14-140 kit lens that's bundled with the GH1.

@TheToad, I find QTInput scales the luma, even with latest QT Alternative installed. It appears to scale the luma twice though, so levels appear correct until you check them on a waveform or histogram to see combing and data loss.

So i use Haali Media splitter and remux into a matroska container, then use AVISynth & Haali bundled .dlls to read the mkv's to decode the h264.

Also for anyone reading, never use FFmpeg to convert to RGB always use AVISynth. FFmpegs swscale expands the luma crushing blacks and clipping whites, and on default settings for interpolation looses about 50% of colour data compared to AVISynth's conversion.

This all works on Linux too with Wine.

It originates from hotrodcameras.com as mentioned.

If you have read through the Spectra arcticle you referred to you know that by no way is their guide a way to get a scientific camera ISO rating but a way to expose midtones consistently.

However the original HOTRODCAMERAS tip is to achieve a "film look" with GH1. A different aproach and application. And as further explained on the hotrod site, the reason for the above mentioned procedure is to get the best latitude out of GH1 while keeping the detail in highlights.
As it appears that the GH1 has more detail to play with mid and under exposed levels than at highlight end.

Hi!
I love your blog.
I recently directed a book trailer for my wife's novel, YOU ARE NEXT, using my Canon 7D (except for two flashback shots that were shots on a toy Harinezumi camera).
I would love it, if you would take a look.

The vimeo link is:

I hope you like it.
Thanks again for your wonderful blog.

Best,
Oliver Lief
